This well-known high-speed Network/Security Monitoring company is seeking a Hardware Design Architect to define the hardware architecture for their next-generation ethernet switching interconnected enterprise chassis system. The Hardware Design Architect will lead the entire hardware design efforts from definition through manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Design architecture - developing design requirements; developing high-level block diagrams; Schematic creation.
- Collaboration with Software, Hardware Engineering Management teams.
- Create schematic - Control Plane – CPU, Memory (DDR, EEPROM), Interfaces (I2C, SPI, etc.); Data Plane - Large high-speed Ethernet Switching Chip.
- Software - Collaborate with Software Engineering team to ensure device drivers and configuration meet design specifications.
- Physical Design/Layout - Collaborate with Layout Contractor for layout of major components, power planes/routing and design rules.
- Mechanical Requirements - Collaborate with Mechanical Design team on metalwork and other physical aspects (i.e. placement of mechanical components, sufficient thermos cooling, etc.).
- Board Bring-up/Validation - Test, debug, validate power, timing and functionality.
- Manufacturing - Review manufacturing requirements, BOM.
Requirements
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in architecting and/or leading the design for large enterprise ethernet switching devices.
- Architecture experience with Block Diagrams and Schematic creation.
- Familiar with the following design tools: Cadence, Orcad and Allegro.
- Prior design experience with the following interfaces: I2C, SPI, UART.
- Experience with high-speed digital design (10G, 25G, 50G).
- Proven experience working cross-functionally with Software Engineering, Physical Design, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership and influential skills.
Preferred Experience
- Large Ethernet Switch experience (Marvell, Intel, Cavium)
- Quad Core ARM CPU experience
- DDR3/DDR4 experience
